Решение о создании категории стран-партнеров БРИКС было принято на саммите в Казани в октябре 2024 года. Накануне саммита объединение получило заявки от 35 стран на подключение к его деятельности в том или ином качестве.
Сейчас в БРИКС состоят Бразилия, Египет, Индия, Иран, Китай, ОАЭ, Россия, Эфиопия и ЮАР. По итогам прошлого года их доля в мировой экономике превысила 35%.
