Город активно внедряет экологические инициативы. Установлено около 2000 контейнеров для раздельного сбора отходов. Более тысячи человек участвуют в проекте «Горожанин-ученый».
Проводятся экскурсии с орнитологами и гидрологами в Русско-Немецкой Швейцарии. Запущены первые инициативы по переработке строительных отходов. Реализуются проекты по рекультивации Самосыровской свалки и очистке иловых полей. Ведется реконструкция очистных сооружений.
