PAxAC members attended the annual Hungarian Festival.
The "busójárás" (busó-procession) is a special Hungarian folk tradition, which dates back to the 18th century. The roots of the tradition come from the Sokác ethnic group, who lived in South Hungary.
It's a typical tradition meant to "chase away" the winter. It starts in January and finishes when the Catholic Lent starts in February.
The Hungarians have a legend about the "busós." When the Ottoman Empire attacked the Hungarian Kingdom, the busós used masks, painted them with blood, and attacked the Ottomans during the night. The Ottomans thought the fallen Hungarian warriors came back from the dead, so they ran away from the Hungarian city (called Mohács) without a fight.
