فراکسیون به مجموعه افراد هم فکر و عم عقیده که دارای تشابهات زیادی در زمینه های مختلف فکری و عملی هستند اطلاق می شود. در مجلس فراکسیوهای مختلفی وجود دارد ولی باید توجه داشت تقسیمات مربوط به فراکسیونها حالت رسمی و قانونی ندارد و بیشتر مربوط به تحولات داخلی مجلس می باشد. به عبارت دیگر در قانون و آیین نامه داخلی مجلس سخنی از فراکسیون نشده است.
به عبارت دیگر فراکسیون یعنی گروهی که درون حزب یا گروهی سیاسی تشکیل شود و اعضایش درزمینه چگونگی اجرای برنامه‌ها و سیاست‌های کلی آن حزب یا سازمان، نظریات و عقایدی متفاوت ابراز کنند. در مجالس قانون‌گذاری، جناح مجلسی (پارلمانی) به گروه‌های نمایندگان احزاب اطلاق می‌شود. جناح‌های مجلسی جمهوری اسلامی ایران، از آن جمله هستند.
