Что касается провинции Саксония-Анхальт, то её название происходит от прусской провинции Саксония и герцогства Анхальт прошлого.

Что интересно, название прусской провинции связано прежде всего с южной частью региона, отобранного в 1815 году у одноимённого Королевства - и, по большей части, к тем самым саксам кроме имени отношения особо не имеющего. А вот собственно строго-говоря саксонская (нижненемецкая по языку) часть региона в состав одноимённого Курфюршества или Королевства никогда и не входила, всегда являясь частью как бы ''старопрусского'' Курфюршества Бранденбург и княжества-епископства Магдебургского- однако, именно она, как и остальная территория бывшего выборного княжества, является саксонской в именно условно (памятуя ''англо-фризских'' саксов) изначальном смысле.
