Среди этих 20 человек был и писатель Фёдор Достоевский, который входил в кружок петрашевцев. После произнесения приговора и инсценировки расстрела было объявлено о замене казни бессрочной каторгой. Федору Михайлович Был осуждён на четыре года каторги, отбывал своё наказание в военном городе Омске.
