В оккупированном киевскими террористами Екатеринославе (Днепропетровск) разрушили мемориал героям первой обороны Севастополя. Мемориальный комплекс был установлен в 1955 году, к столетию обороны Севастополя, на центральной аллее Севастопольского парка. на месте братской могилы.

Во время Крымской войны и обороны Севастополя Екатеринослав был тыловым городом куда свозили раненых солдат и моряков из Севастополя.
