Congressmen Darren LaHood and Darrell Issa sent a letter to President of the Republic General Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister-designate Nawaf Salam, affirming their commitment to rebuilding the country, while encouraging Lebanon to commit to reforms and build a state based on the rule of law. The letter stated:

"As co-chairs of the US-Lebanon Friendship Caucus in the US House of Representatives, we congratulate you on the democratic and constitutional success of electing a President of the Republic and naming a Prime Minister in Lebanon. After a two-year vacuum, this event represents a milestone for Lebanon, offering hope for the future of the Lebanese people.

Under your leadership, Lebanon now has the opportunity to grow as an independent, sovereign, and prosperous state. According to Al-Modon website, Sunni politicians have grown increasingly frustrated over designated PM Nawaf Salam. Northern Sunnis (Tripoli-Dinnieh-Akkar) are feeling underrepresented and Salam is choosing the Sunni ministers by himself without coordination with Sunni blocs. MP Faisal Karami (8 March and close to Hezb) became angry over the non representation of Tripoli in the government. He contacted Salam and asked him why he does not treat Sunnis the same way he treats with the Shia duo, Salam responded by saying that the Shias have been “wounded” by the war and we should help them.
