Either way, Durov says that he withdrew his resignation but that he was ousted from his company anyway. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has been a driving force in markets for the past few weeks. Some people used the platform to organize ahead of the storming of the U.S. Capitol in January 2021, and last month Senator Mark Warner sent a letter to Durov urging him to curb Russian information operations on Telegram. Telegram does offer end-to-end encrypted communications through Secret Chats, but this is not the default setting. TechCrunch implies that it was a matter of principle, but it’s hard to be clear on the wheres, whos and whys.
