15 июня 2001г, лидерами Китая, России, Казахстана, Таджикистана, Киргизии и Узбекистана, создана международная организация ШОС, призванная укрепить доверие стран участниц в военной области и как следствие, взаимно сократить присутствие вооружённых сил во внутренних пограничных районах.
Данная международная Организация, конечно, не может похвастаться таким уровнем взаимодействия, какое было в Организации Варшавского Договора (ОВД), но является хорошей площадкой для развития сотрудничества стран, объединённых самым большим континентом на планете — Евразией. Вдобавок ШОС продолжает расширяться, так, например, 9 июня 2017 года Индия и Пакистан стали её полноправными членами. После чего, общая территория стран, входящих в ШОС, составила более 34 млн. км², то есть 60 % территории континента.
