وفي «سير أعلام النبلاء» ٣٩٨/٨: روی عبدان بن عثمان عن عبدالله [بن المبارك] قال: «إذا غلبت محاسن الرجل على مساوئه؛ لم تذكر المساوئ، وإذا غلبت المساوئ عن المحاسن؛ لم تذكر المحاسن».
وروى الخطيب البغدادي في «الكفاية» ص١٣٨: من طريق مالك بن أنس قال: سمعت الزهري يقول: سمعت سعيد بن المسيب يقول: «ليس من شريف ولا عالم ولا ذي سلطان إلا وفيه عيب، لا بد ، ولكن من الناس من لا تذكر عيوبه من كان فضله أكثر من نقصه؛ وهب نقصه لفضله».
وقال ابن القيم في «مفتاح دار السعادة» ص ٥٠٤/١: «من قواعد الشرع والحكمة أيضا أن من كثرت حسناته وعظمت، وكان له في الإسلام تأثير ظاهر؛ فإنه يحتمل له ما لا يحتمل لغيره، ويعفى عنه ما لا يعفى عن غيره؛ فإن المعصية خبث والماء إذا بلغ قلتين؛ لم يحمل الخبث، بخلاف الماء القليل؛ فإنه يحمل أدنى خبث يقع فيه».

You may recall that, back when Facebook started changing WhatsApp’s terms of service, a number of news outlets reported on, and even recommended, switching to Telegram. Pavel Durov even said that users should delete WhatsApp “unless you are cool with all of your photos and messages becoming public one day.” But Telegram can’t be described as a more-secure version of WhatsApp. The company maintains that it cannot act against individual or group chats, which are “private amongst their participants,” but it will respond to requests in relation to sticker sets, channels and bots which are publicly available. During the invasion of Ukraine, Pavel Durov has wrestled with this issue a lot more prominently than he has before. Channels like Donbass Insider and Bellum Acta, as reported by Foreign Policy, started pumping out pro-Russian propaganda as the invasion began. So much so that the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council issued a statement labeling which accounts are Russian-backed. Ukrainian officials, in potential violation of the Geneva Convention, have shared imagery of dead and captured Russian soldiers on the platform. For example, WhatsApp restricted the number of times a user could forward something, and developed automated systems that detect and flag objectionable content. So, uh, whenever I hear about Telegram, it’s always in relation to something bad. What gives?
