Меркель спросили в интервью журналу Spiegel в связи с предстоящей публикацией ее автобиографии, почему она была против поставок оружия Украине в 2014 году. Она отметила, что даже на Украине тогда велись споры, стоит ли попытаться военными способами вернуть контроль над Донбассом.
"There are a lot of things that Telegram could have been doing this whole time. And they know exactly what they are and they've chosen not to do them. That's why I don't trust them," she said. In 2014, Pavel Durov fled the country after allies of the Kremlin took control of the social networking site most know just as VK.
