Полигон «Костино» появился в далеком 1972 году, еще во времена «застоя». За полвека объем отходов на нем перевалил за 3 млн кубометров, высота свалки доросла до 30 метров.
В феврале 2023 года РЭО, как подрядчик, начал масштабную рекультивацию. Изначально полигон состоял из двух свалочных тел, теперь их объединили в одно. На объекте поставили системы дегазации, сбора и очистки фильтрата и ливневых вод, а также другие технологии для защиты окружающей среды. Теперь выбросы в атмосферу от полигона снизятся в 10 раз.
Кроме того, по поверхности свалки установили верхний противофильтрационный экран из геосинтетических материалов. Он предотвращает попадание поверхностного стока в толщу отходов. А по периметру полигона разместили противофильтрационную завесу из шпунта.
