Киевский вокзал в своем классическом виде был сооружен в годы Второй Отечественной войны и до 1930-х продолжал называться Брянским.
До 1914 года это было простое вытянутое одноэтажное здание с двумя подъездами.
Брянский вокзал построили к весне 1899 года, и простояло оно в таком скучном виде немногим больше 15 лет, пока правление Московско-Киево-Воронежской железной дороги не решилось в год 100-летия Бородинской битвы выстроить что-то более монументальное. Проект разработал Иван Иванович Рерберг, перекрытия сделал великий Шухов. Здание завершили в роковом для Россiи 1917 году, а движение составов было запущено только в 1918-м.
