هیئت منصفه یک دادگاه در آمریکا، شرکت اسرائیلی NSO Group رو محکوم کرده که ۱۶۷ میلیون دلار خسارت تنبیهی به واتساپ پرداخت کنه. این حکم به خاطر هک کردن هزاران گوشی کاربران واتساپ با استفاده از نقصهای امنیتی و نصب نرمافزار جاسوسی پگاسوس روی اونها صادر شده و یک پیروزی بزرگ برای واتساپ و مدافعان حریم خصوصی به حساب میاد.
هکرها با استفاده از یک آسیبپذیری مهم در واتساپ، تماسهای خاصی رو برقرار میکردند که باعث نصب پگاسوس روی گوشی افراد از جمله روزنامهنگارها، فعالان حقوق بشر، سیاستمدارها و دیپلماتها میشد. NSO ادعا میکرد ابزارهای خودش رو فقط به دولتها برای مبارزه با جرم و تروریسم میفروشه و مسئولیتی نداره، اما دادگاه این ادعا رو رد کرد.

He added that as Apple and Google both follow the law, to violate it would give both platforms a reason to boot the messenger from its stores. Unlike Silicon Valley giants such as Facebook and Twitter, which run very public anti-disinformation programs, Brooking said: "Telegram is famously lax or absent in its content moderation policy."
