КНР ввела дополнительный тариф в размере 15% на импорт угля и сжиженного природного газа из США; на нефть, сельскохозяйственную технику, автомобили с большим объемом двигателя и пикапы — в размере 10%.
Новые пошлины стали ответной мерой Пекина на протекционистскую политику президента США Дональда Трампа. С 1 февраля Вашингтон ввел тарифы в размере 10% на импорт из КНР. В связи с этим Китай задействовал механизм урегулирования споров Всемирной торговой организации.

TechCrunch implies that it was a matter of principle, but it’s hard to be clear on the wheres, whos and whys. Similarly, on April 17th, the Moscow Times quoted Durov as saying that he quit the company after being pressured to reveal account details about Ukrainians protesting the then-president Viktor Yanukovych. WhatsApp, a rival messaging platform, introduced some measures to counter disinformation when Covid-19 was first sweeping the world.
