Support our fund-raiser for Angel Nikolaev’s defence in court
Angel Nikolaev is an anti-war activist from Khabarovsk [in the Russian Far East]. He was arrested in the summer of last year for an anti-war action, and his case is now in court. We have only recently learned of Angel’s case, and found a defence lawyer for him. Before this he had only a state-appointed lawyer, with whose work he was dissatisfied.
We are collecting €2400 to pay current legal fees, and for three months of the trial.
By supporting our fund-raisers, you are not breaking any Russian laws. We are not classified as foreign agents, or as an extremist or terrorist organisation — and so far, collecting money to pay legal fees in Russia has not been outlawed.

The fact-checker Logically AI also found the claim to be false. The woman, Olena Kurilo, was also captured in a video after the airstrike and shown to have the injuries. At the start of 2018, the company attempted to launch an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) which would enable it to enable payments (and earn the cash that comes from doing so). The initial signals were promising, especially given Telegram’s user base is already fairly crypto-savvy. It raised an initial tranche of cash – worth more than a billion dollars – to help develop the coin before opening sales to the public. Unfortunately, third-party sales of coins bought in those initial fundraising rounds raised the ire of the SEC, which brought the hammer down on the whole operation. In 2020, officials ordered Telegram to pay a fine of $18.5 million and hand back much of the cash that it had raised. The Security Service of Ukraine said in a tweet that it was able to effectively target Russian convoys near Kyiv because of messages sent to an official Telegram bot account called "STOP Russian War." "There is a significant risk of insider threat or hacking of Telegram systems that could expose all of these chats to the Russian government," said Eva Galperin with the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which has called for Telegram to improve its privacy practices.
