Support our fund-raiser for Angel Nikolaev’s defence in court
Angel Nikolaev is an anti-war activist from Khabarovsk [in the Russian Far East]. He was arrested in the summer of last year for an anti-war action, and his case is now in court. We have only recently learned of Angel’s case, and found a defence lawyer for him. Before this he had only a state-appointed lawyer, with whose work he was dissatisfied.
We are collecting €2400 to pay current legal fees, and for three months of the trial.
By supporting our fund-raisers, you are not breaking any Russian laws. We are not classified as foreign agents, or as an extremist or terrorist organisation — and so far, collecting money to pay legal fees in Russia has not been outlawed.

In February 2014, the Ukrainian people ousted pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych, prompting Russia to invade and annex the Crimean peninsula. By the start of April, Pavel Durov had given his notice, with TechCrunch saying at the time that the CEO had resisted pressure to suppress pages criticizing the Russian government. If you initiate a Secret Chat, however, then these communications are end-to-end encrypted and are tied to the device you are using. That means it’s less convenient to access them across multiple platforms, but you are at far less risk of snooping. Back in the day, Secret Chats received some praise from the EFF, but the fact that its standard system isn’t as secure earned it some criticism. If you’re looking for something that is considered more reliable by privacy advocates, then Signal is the EFF’s preferred platform, although that too is not without some caveats. Asked about its stance on disinformation, Telegram spokesperson Remi Vaughn told AFP: "As noted by our CEO, the sheer volume of information being shared on channels makes it extremely difficult to verify, so it's important that users double-check what they read."
