МТК пройдёт от «прокола» на Богашёвском тракте и плавно перейдёт в ул. Богдана Хмельницкого в сторону посёлка Мирного. Между «проколом» и «Южными воротами» будет оставлен задел для будущей связки с Аникинской развязкой, чьё строительство, также, должно начаться в ближайшие годы. На второй участок МТК пока нет финансирования, но его планируют провести через студенческий студенческий кампус, в обход Академгородка, с выходом на улицу Высоцкого
Стоимость строительства первого участка кольца – 5,5 миллиарда рублей. На эти деньги можно было 5 раз переложить все трамвайные пути Томска, отремонтировать почти 200 исторических домов или построить 5 новых школ.
