Even though some sources refer to Per Lütken as one of Holmegaard’s most talented glassblowers, he never mouth-blew any of his designs. What’s more, when he joined Holmegaard at the age of 25 having graduated from Copenhagen’s School of Danish Arts and Crafts, Lütken had zero experience with glassmaking. Yet, just one year later, he was appointed Holmegaard’s creative director and stayed in this role until his demise in 1988 creating over 3,000 designs and earning the title “master of Danish glass design”. Having no hands-on experience, he was endowed with an extraordinary sense of the material and the possibilities it offered and was thus extremely demanding of factory’s glassmakers. Hearing their complaints that his designs were much too complex to execute, he would simply say, “Well, who said things were supposed to be easy?”

In 1970, Lütken came up with No. 5, one of Denmark’s most acclaimed series of glassware. Just like Coco Chanel, who felt the bottle of Chanel No. 5 should be “pure transparency” and “invisible” and ultimately chose against highly intricate bottle designs the likes of which were produced by René Lalique at the time, Lütken conceived the No. 5 collection as a series of minimalist, yet immediately recognizable pieces. Just like Chanel No. 5 bottles, Lütken’s No. 5 glassware has remained intact to this day and is still in demand. Unlike Chanel No. 5 bottles, however, Lütken’s glasses are all mouth-blown by his colleagues…

Ukrainian forces have since put up a strong resistance to the Russian troops amid the war that has left hundreds of Ukrainian civilians, including children, dead, according to the United Nations. Ukrainian and international officials have accused Russia of targeting civilian populations with shelling and bombardments. Telegram has become more interventionist over time, and has steadily increased its efforts to shut down these accounts. But this has also meant that the company has also engaged with lawmakers more generally, although it maintains that it doesn’t do so willingly. For instance, in September 2021, Telegram reportedly blocked a chat bot in support of (Putin critic) Alexei Navalny during Russia’s most recent parliamentary elections. Pavel Durov was quoted at the time saying that the company was obliged to follow a “legitimate” law of the land. He added that as Apple and Google both follow the law, to violate it would give both platforms a reason to boot the messenger from its stores. In the past, it was noticed that through bulk SMSes, investors were induced to invest in or purchase the stocks of certain listed companies. Asked about its stance on disinformation, Telegram spokesperson Remi Vaughn told AFP: "As noted by our CEO, the sheer volume of information being shared on channels makes it extremely difficult to verify, so it's important that users double-check what they read." In February 2014, the Ukrainian people ousted pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych, prompting Russia to invade and annex the Crimean peninsula. By the start of April, Pavel Durov had given his notice, with TechCrunch saying at the time that the CEO had resisted pressure to suppress pages criticizing the Russian government.
