По данным МЧС, группа из 19 человек во время восхождения на высоте около 5400 метров попала в снежный буран, один из ее участников получил травму ноги, и они запросили помощь спасателей.
В спасательной операции, продолжавшейся несколько часов, участвовали почти 70 человек и 16 единиц техники. Поиски велись ночью, в условиях сильной пурги, при видимости в 1 метр.
В итоге 14 человек удалось спустить живыми и передать медикам, пятеро погибли.
