دولت سوئد دستور داده است تا شورای آموزش عالی سوئد امکان‌سنجی معرفی آزمون شهروندی را آغاز کند. این آزمون در دو مرحله خواهد بود: ابتدا، ارزیابی آگاهی از جامعه سوئد و مهارت‌های زبان سوئدی، سپس آزمون نوشتاری و گفتاری.
اولین مرحله باید تا 17 اوت 2026 اجرایی شود. تاثیر این تغییرات بر درخواست‌های قبلی هنوز مشخص نیست.
