Раут вербовал военнослужащих в украинский интернациональный легион теробороны, созданный через несколько дней после нападения России.

По словам журналистов, преступник просунул дуло оружия сквозь сетчатый забор гольф-клуба в 400 метрах от места, где находился Дональд Трамп. Оружие заметил агент Секретной службы и открыл огонь. Офис шерифа опубликовал фотографию автомата Калашникова и рюкзаков Раута.

Кроме того, в интернете разошлась фотография мужчины с Майдана Незалежности в Киеве.
