قال ابن القيم (تـ ٧٥١ هـ): «فدُفِعنا إلى زمانٍ إذا قيل لأحدهم: «ثبت عن النبي ﷺ أنه قال كذا وكذا»= يقول: من قال بهذا؟! ويجعل هذا دفعًا في صدر الحديث، ويجعل جهلَهُ بالقائل به حجةً له في مخالفتِهِ وتركِ العمل به. ولو نصَح نفسه لعلم: • أن هذا الكلامَ من أعظم الباطل، وأنه لا يحِلُّ له دفعُ سنن رسول الله ﷺ بمثل هذا الجهل. • وأقبح من ذلك عذره في جهله؛ إذ يعتقد أن الإجماع منعقد على مخالفة تلك السنة= وهذا سوءُ ظنٍّ بجماعة المسلمين، إذ ينسبهم إلى اتفاقهم على مخالفة سنة رسول الله ﷺ. • وأقبح من ذلك عذره في دعوى هذا الإجماع، وهو جهلُه وعدمُ علمه بمن قال بالحديث. فعاد الأمرُ إلى تقديمِ جهلِهِ على السُّنَّة».
