♦️معنی لغوی واژه‌ی فرانسوی دژاوو، «پیشتر دیده شده» است. در فارسی «آشناپنداری» را هم به جای آن به کار می‌برند. عرب‌ها به آن «وهم سبق الرؤية» و «ديجا فو» می‌گویند. یونانی‌ها، چینی‌ها و ژاپنی‌ها از کشورهایی هستند که آن را برابرسازی کرده‌اند. ترجمه‌ی برابرِ یونانی‌اش، Προμνησία، «پیش‌آگاهی» است.
