Обнаружил он их в ходе раскопок городища в селе Едис. Найденный в Южной Осетии искусственно деформированный череп доказывал, что Южная Осетия была аланской землей ещё до нашествия монголов.
В этом и заключалась вся ценность находки, доказывающей принадлежность данной территории к осетинам.
